Karadeniz Technical University (KTU), is one of the oldest and prestigious universities in Turkey. It offers education for thousands of undergrad and post-grad students in many different schools including engineering, medicine, humanities and arts etc.
The history of Fatih Faculty of Education (where summer school will take place) goes back to 1963 when it was established as an institution to provide a two year teacher training programme for prospective teachers. The Education Faculty is located outside of the central campus of KTU in a small town near the seaside, approximately 10 km away from Trabzon. The Faculty has developed tremendously since 1963 and now is providing courses for students studying in a large numbers of disciplines among of which mathematics education.
In Turkey there are only a few faculties/departments which have been granted the permission by Higher Education Council to run PhD programmes in Mathematics Education and the Fatih Faculty of Education is one of them. About 40 post-grad students are currently carrying out their Masters and PhD studies in mathematics education department in our faculty.
